So if I'm going to use this on a canoe, do I need to purchase the 449 attachments?

The 449 clamps are an option if you want to have the entire system removable or if you want to be able to move the rod holders in various positions along the sides of your canoe when not using the stabilizers. The Scotty mounts that come with the stabilizers can be mounted on the canoe in a fixed position with the hardware provided. The Scotty 441 backplate is an option for greater stability.

How do you inflate the floats?

Compressor with an air gun work just fine...remember do not over inflate, the outside temp has an effect on them...it might burst. Inflate but make sure you can press down at least 1 inch down on the float.

Owner of Ascend fs-10, need more buoyancy in the rear to compensate for the weight or trolling motor/battery. Would this product work for that?

Yes, it would work for that. However, I looked up your kayak on the web to see pictures and mounting might be a problem. From the picture I saw on the web, it looks like you have in deck rod holders at the best location to mount this system. I would check into your mounting areas before purchasing them. I am not near my kayak right now or I would give you the dimensions of the mounting area needed.

Should this be mounted near the front or the back?? I'm using it to stabilize my seven-year-old's yak.

My Kayak is a 12' fishing kayak, so I mounted the stabilizer bars about 18 inches behind the seat to be out of the way. You also need to mount them back to avoid interfering with paddling.
