Whatever you can imagine they would work for. My mind sees that they could be used in much the same fashion as the front loops: Slide the butt end of a rod down into the loop and secure it with the buckles at the middle section of the backpack. Carry your extra rod around that way?

Yes, there is a pocket in the inermost compartment for a hydration bladder ( not included.) There is an exit hole in the corner of that compartment that lets you route the drinking tube up through the slots of the shoulder strap. That compartmet also has an expansion/comperssion zipper that allows you toadjust the volume of the pack should yu decide to put the bag in. well designed.
