Fish the Big Manistee River with Chromeseekers: Perfect for Beginners & Avid Anglers!

Join Chromeseekers for an exciting fishing experience! Captain Dan invites you to explore the Big Manistee River, a new adventure after conquering Lake Michigan and the Betsie River. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced angler, there's a fish waiting for you.

You'll have the option to fish from one of our two boats. The first is a 17’ Smokercraft boat with a capacity of 2 anglers for steelhead fishing and 3 for salmon fishing. This boat is equipped with a 40/60 HP Yamaha engine.

The second boat is a 15’ Stealth Craft drift boat operated by Captain Dan's other guide, Keygan. This boat is used for overflow and can accommodate only 2 anglers due to its space limitations.

In the event that both boats are already occupied, we have qualified guides ready to take trips under the Chromeseekers name.

Please note that the availability of salmon on the Big Manistee (Tippy Dam) may be limited by fishing regulations. As a result, Captain Dan focuses on the Betsie River and Lake Michigan during late August and September, utilizing his drift boat. When the Betsie River slows down in early October, the captain shifts his operations to Tippy Dam for full-time fishing.

The steelhead season typically starts around October, coinciding with cooler temperatures and rainfall. Winter is an excellent time for fishing, as the crowds diminish. Don't let the snow or cold weather discourage you, as winter-run steelhead fishing can be phenomenal.

In late February, the spring run begins and continues until late April, depending on weather conditions. This remarkable fishing experience is available until May.

During the summer months, when many anglers venture out to the lakes, the river presents opportunities for catching various species such as steelhead, trout, bass, walleye, northern pike, and more. Expect the unexpected when fishing in summertime.

Captain Dan takes care of all your fishing gear needs, including lures and live bait. We kindly request that all steelhead be caught and released. When it comes to salmon, please consider the future of the fishery and limit your catch rather than reaching the limit.

Remember to purchase a valid fishing license before your trip, and don't forget to pack some snacks and drinks for a fulfilling day on the river.
