Dont put them too far out of your reach. Sit in your yak, look over your shoulder and see how comfortable your reach is. I have two extra behind mine. One for an extra pole, one for my net. I have a third on the right side by my seat, to put my pole in when I need both hands with a fish and my net, that way I dont have to lay it down in the bottom of the tank and be in the way. I also have a milk crate in the rear behind my seat with an extra piece of PVC pipe attached for an extra pole as I take 3 as it's too far to paddle out in the ocean not to need one if you break one and not have it.
