They are M8 security bolts. If you haven’t seen these before, it’s like a hex nut bolt, but it has a post in the middle that prevents normal tools from removing them. Only tools that are designed to accommodate the post can remove the bolt. It’s not exactly unique to Yakima, but it does help deter common theft.
