YAKIMA HoldUp Bike Rack

Description

The YAKIMA HoldUp Hitch Mount Tray Bike Rack is Yakima's fastest, easiest way to load bikes and hit the trails. It features a beefed-up arm pivot, making it stronger and more durable than ever before. The side-to-side adjustability reduces the chances of bike-to-bike interference, ensuring a seamless biking experience. In short, it is the ultimate road trip companion for bikers.

Adventure ready: This bike rack allows you to load your bike in seconds, whether it's a 20-inch wheel or a 29er. The StrongArm design securely holds the bike at the wheels, protecting the paint and carbon frames.

Smart design: The HoldUp rack tilts down even with bikes loaded, allowing you to easily access the back of your vehicle. It accommodates disc brakes, thru-axles, and full suspension bikes, ensuring compatibility with various bike types.

Unrivaled spacing: The rack comes with the capacity to carry 2 bikes out of the box. With the optional HoldUp +2, it can carry up to 4 bikes. It fits both 1-1/4 inch and 2-inch hitch receivers. The side-to-side adjustability feature enables you to adjust the space between bikes for optimal convenience.

Easy installation: The HoldUp rack comes with SKS Locks included for added security. It also comes with a limited lifetime warranty, providing peace of mind to customers.

Now, let's address some frequently asked questions about this bike rack:

Question: Does this come with a locking hitch bolt or do you have to buy it separately?

Answer: Yes, the rack does come with a locking hitch bolt. However, it is worth mentioning that some customers reported that the lock fell off within the first two weeks of travel. Overall, it is designed well and is considered an outstanding rack.

Question: How easy is it to mount and unmount this Yakima Holdup unit regularly?

Answer: Mounting and unmounting this bike rack regularly can be done, but keep in mind that the rack is heavy, weighing about 55 lbs. To remove the rack, you need to unscrew the "no rattle" hitch pin either with the provided tool or a socket wrench. For some individuals, especially older females, this may require more effort than desired. As a result, once the rack is put on, it is commonly left in place for extended periods. Despite this, it is fairly compact and does not significantly detract from the appearance of the vehicle.

Question: What is the weight limit for this rack? I have a heavy E-bike weighing 60 pounds.

Answer: According to Yakima's manual, the weight limit for this rack is set at 60 pounds per bike. It should be able to handle your heavy E-bike without any issues.

Question: Does this rack tilt away for access to the rear of the vehicle?

Answer: The photo of the rack showcases the downward position with the arms tilted up. To access the rear door of the vehicle, the arms can be folded down. When not in use, the entire rack can be folded up against the rear door, preventing it from protruding outward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this come with locking hitch bolt or do you have to buy separately?

Yes, the rack does come with a locking hitch bolt. However (and it may be due to operator error) the lock fell off in the first two weeks of travel. It is keyed the same as the two locking cables, so the design is excellent. This is an outstanding rack, and I highly recommend it.

How easy is it to mount and unmount this Yakima Holdup unit regularly? For example, I want to mount on Friday and remove it at the end of the weekend.

Its easy to do, however, the bike rack is heavy (about 55 lbs) and you have to UNSCREW the "no rattle" hitch pin either with the tool provided or use a socket wrench. For me (older female) this is too much effort to do regularly, so once I put the rack on in the spring I don't remove it until the snow falls. The rack is fairly compact and does detract from the beauty of my vehicle (Buick Encore) so I don't mind. So, in the end it is easy to remove but only as fast as you can unscrew the hitch pin and a simple key turn to remove the lock that secures the rack to the hitch.

Whats the weight limit? I got a really heavy E bike, 60 pounds.

Yakima's manual says the weight limit is 60 pounds per bike.

does this rack tilt away for access to rear of vehichel

The photo shows it in the downward position, except the arms are tilted up. So to access the rear door, the arms fold down. When you are not using the rack, the whole thing folds up against the rear door so that it that's not protrude outward
